Diciendo Gracias / Saying Thank You

Mi tía toma terapia física en la misma oficina donde ella trabaja. Como está finalizando las terapias, me pidió si podía hacerle unas galletitas para decirles gracias a todos en la oficina. Tuve que pensar sobre el diseño ya que es semana de Acción de Gracias y mi tía no lo celebra por la religión que practica, así que quedan fuera los diseños típicos de esta época. / My aunt is going through physical therapy at the same office she works at. As she's ending the therapy round, she asked me if I could make her thank you cookies for everyone at the office. I had to think about the design as this is Thanksgiving week and my aunt does not celebrate it due to her religious denomination, so, I can't use any of the typical designs of this season.

Así que decidí mantenerlo simple y divertirme con estas galletitas. Bueno, si ella trabaja con terapistas físicos y su jefe es un fisiatra, vamos a hacer cada galletita que se parezca a ellos. / So I decided to keep it simple and have some fun with these cookies. Well, if she works with physical therapists and her boss is the physiatrist, lets make a cookie for each one of them in their “likeness”

Baby Girl Princess Shower

Hola! Hace un tiempo me pidieron unas galletitas para una fiesta shower para una bebita. Pero este shower era para una princesa :) Los motivos que me dieron eran como para una quinceañera (y de hecho, son perfectos para una jovencita) pero eran para una bebita a punto de nacer. ¡Que las disfruten! / Hello! Some time ago I was asked to make cookies for a baby girl's shower party. But this shower was for a princess :) The designs they gave me were perfect for a “quinceañera” (like sweet 16^th birthday, perfect for a young lady) but they were for a baby girl to be born soon. Enjoy the pics!

Aprendiendo a usar láminas de azúcar / Learning to use frosting sheets

Una de mis amigas me pidió que le hiciera unas galletas para una convensión médica. Pero las galletas necesitaban el logo de las dos revistas médicas que ella representa. Los logos eran sencillos pero no duplicables a mano. Si fuese simplemente escribir el nombre de cada revista, hubiese sido muy fácil y rápido, pero había que usar el logo de las revistas. / One of my friends asked me to make her cookies for a medical convention. But the cookies needed the logo of the medical magazines she represents. The logos were simple enough but not to dupilcate them by hand. If it was to simply write the name of each magazine, it would be very easy, but I had to use the exact magazine logo.

Decidí usar impresiones de azúcar (las mismas “páginas” de azúcar que se usan en bizcochos). No fue fácil ya que la humedad no ayudaba a sacar cada logo de la página. Para los que no han visto o nunca han usado una página de azúcar, ésta consta de una lámina de azúcar sobre una lámina de plástico. Luego de imprimir la página de azúcar, hay que despegarla de la lámina de plástico. Si la página de azúcar absorbe humedad del ambiente, es muy difícil despegarla del plástico y corremos el riezgo de que se rompa el impreso. / I decided to use sugar sheets (the same you use for cakes). It wasn't easy as the humidity was not helping to pull out each print. For those of you who haven't seen a frosting sheet, it is a sugar “page” with a plastic backing. After printing the page, you have to pull it from the plastic backing. If the sugar sheet absorbs humidity from the environment, it is very hard to pull it from the plastic back and we risk the chance of breaking the print.

Por supuesto, después que hice las galletitas, y me estaba volviendo loca con las páginas de azúcar, encontré un video en YouTube que explicaba como manejar los impresos de azúcar. / Of course, after I made the cookies, and I was going crazy with the frosting sheets, I found a video on YouTube that explained how to work with printed sugar sheets.

 Los impresos de azúcar pueden ser costosos. Es mejor encontrar a alguien local que pueda imprimir las páginas y a donde puedas volver por si necesitas remplazos. Hay algunos lugares en la internet donde se pueden ordenar los impresos, pero los que he encontrado son caros y hay que pagar el envío. / Prints can be expensive. It is better to find a local shop that can print them for you and also you can go back in case you need more prints. There are some places on the internet where you can order prints, but the ones I have found are too expensive plus you have to pay for shipping.

Hay algunas personas que prefieren invertir en una impresora con tinta comestible. La tinta puede ser muy cara ( Una persona me dijo que gasta $60 por los colores ). Creo que si haces un volumen alto de galletas con impresos, es algo en lo que se puede invertir, pero si son pocas, prefiero seguir usando mi recurso local. / There are some people who prefer investing in a printer with edible “ink”.This inl can be very expensive (one person told me she spent $60 for the cartridges). I think that if you have a high volume of cookies with printed images, then it is something that you can invest on, but if they are just a few, I prefer using my local source.
